THE MIDLAND BORDER TERRIER CLUB Open Show, Ashfordby, 18th February 2007 Max King (Judge) The Midland Border Terrier Club held a successful and from my perspective a very enjoyable 19 Class Open Show comprising of 119 dogs and 156 Entries. From a non-breed specialist point of view, I have to admit that you Border Breeders and Exhibitors certainly like to challenge your judges, given one of the shortest Breed Standards you provided me with an entry with variation and scope to allow me to interpret that standard. I awarded BIS to Sneddon’s Kersfell Comet, and Res. BIS and BOS to Clark’s Gameway Spice, Best Puppy went to Singh’s Vandamere’s Secret Agent.
MPD (6.3) 1. Singh’s Vandamere’s Secret Agent. Eye catching young dog, with strong head developing, good bite, coat in good condition, nice size and overall shape, still a little loose when moving, but did enough for BP. 2. Pickering’s Picer Monty Zoomer. Natural showman, very nice type, just needs the time to mature. One I think can do well in the future. 3. Gregory’s Paulabell Billy. PD (7.1) 1. Freeman’s Bolt Tail Jebba. Attractive young dog with nice outline showing off his sound construction and shape. Well balanced, nice expression, good rear angulation and tail set, good coat and true movement. 2. Brook’s Bandicoot April Storm. In full coat, good straight front, would prefer slightly smaller ears which would improve appearance. 3. Marr’s Ruelata Acrobat at Redfox. JD (5) 1. Wallace’s Hobholt Harrier. Liked overall balance and appearance with no exaggeration, moved well. 2. Price’s Oxcroft Rouser. Very honest sort, but not putting it all in against 1, good head, shoulders and front construction. 3. Harrison’s Iacheslei Torus. ND (3) 1. Hemstock’s Jolihem Jack Sparrow. Appealing young dog making his debut I understand. Scored in head, neck and shoulders, strong muzzle with good bite, coat just right and moved with purpose. Res BD. 2. B Tail Jebba. 3. P Monty Zoomer. GD (5.1) 1 H Jack Sparrow. 2 Peacock’s Ragatam Guilder. Good head and mouth, with well set ears, in fair coat, strong loins. 3. Johnson’s Karison Kasper. PGD (6.3) 1. Axford’s Barterhound Rhinestone. Good body shape, nice size, well set and well carried tail, good rear angulation. 2. R Guilder. 3. Batchelor’s Crossreguill Calagary Sky Over Blythwind. LD (10.2) 1. Sneddon’s Kerfell Comet. Smart dog in tip top condition, full of gameness and active throughout, good head with broad skull and well placed ears, straight front coming from well placed shoulders, super coat, movement sound, true and parallel. BD and BIS. 2. Hollingsbee’s Otterwood Amex. Honest sort, with good length of body, angulation and tail set. 3. Lazell’s Foxyard Shropshire Blue. OD (6) 1. Pickering’s Picer Cour Di Bue. Clean lines, good shoulders producing good front movement, would like stronger jaw. 2. Hemstock’s Jolihem Cookie Monster. Not in 100% coat, decent sort of nice size and proportions. 3. Lazell’s Foxyard Shropshire Blue. MPB (6.2) 1. Huddleston’s Ophelia of Elsinore. Pretty young bitch, keen and on her toes, deep narrow body. 2. Smith & Watts’ Markrich My Moti. Nice head and front construction, coat in good order, just preferred topline and tailset of 1. 3. Hopson’s Orenberg Bria Von Totemia. PB (12.3) 1. Vasey’s Ruelata Allspice. Typy expression, good head with dark eye and neat ears, good shoulders, spanned with ease, won this class on overall shape and type. 2. Docwra’s Bandicoot Miss April. Good proportions and well angulated, sound head. 3. O Bria Von Totemia. JB (14.2) 1. Price’s Oxcroft Ruby. Very nice type, nice size and shape being very well put together, strong head, well laid back shoulders, would prefer more animation on the move. Res. BB. 2. Dickinson’s Stoneygin Ripon Ruby at Badgerholme. Another pleasing type, and very close decision between the first two, good body shape, clean cut, good topline and tailset, graceful yet powerful mover. 3. Sneddon’s Annesuz Dawn Run to Kersfell. NB (15.2) 1. Peacock’s Micleheath Crystal by Ragatamb. Broad skull but would prefer stronger muzzle, naturally pulls herself together to show off her qualities in outline and clean cut lines. 2. Johnson’s Karison Klover. Short coupled, but not the length of ribs as 1, but nice size and shape and no denying her feminine appearance. 3. Speake & Tart’s Aurora’s Popcorn. GB (11.3) 1. Moss’ Vallemoss Viola. Liked overall package, good head, ears and expression, coat in good condition. 2. Gittens’ Smartstone Darling at Tregennadene. Liked size and outline, particularly rear construction, with good angulation and bend of stifle which produced good rear drive. 3. A Dawn Run to Kersfell. PGB (13.3) 1. Price’s Oxcroft Rockstar. Typically from this kennel, very honest and pleasing sort, well bodied, good bone and substance, another where I would prefer more active movement. 2. Hollingbee’s Otterwood Ilex. True mover and in good coat, but preferred overall type of 1. 3. Simmonds & Decellif’s Zammit Daisy Chain. LB (10.4) 1. Cadman’s Otterbobs Kirksty at Junctionnine. Very nice type and what many attributes to admire, to be critical would prefer improved topline by more attention to handling. 2. James’ Blackmine Paper Heart. No disguising anything with this pretty bitch, as she was still in her underclothes, and as they say, what you see is what you get. When in coat will trouble the best. 3. Singh’s Nanrich Lets Go to Vandamere. OB (6.2) 1. Clark’s Gameway Spice. Quality bitch throughout, good head with broad skull, punishing jaw, well placed ears, good lay back of shoulders producing good reach, just needs a little more coat to complete the picture. BB and Res BIS. 2 Singh’s Nanrich Fingerprint of Vandamere. Nice type, but a little heavier throughout compared to 1, good head, strong muzzle, in good coat. 3. Hollingsbee’s Badgerholme The Oakes at Otterwood. V D/B (6.2) 1. Hemstock’s Oxcroft Rector at Jolihem. 8.1/2 year old dog still holding good muscle tone. 2. Hollingsbee’s Gaytime Girl of Otterwood. Defying her age of 9.1/2 years by her keen and active movement. 3. Wright’s Totherend Hot Shot. Spec Challenge D/B (7) 1. Bolt Tail Jebba. 2. Pearson’s Orenberg Tilly Trotter at Mascani. Handled sympathetically and glad to see that handler took advice and moved at pace, which produced a much better picture. 3. Bryan & Pounder’s Hemlockstone Jinni. Brace (8) 1. Johnson’s, moved and showed as one. 2. Price 3. Hemstock & Simmonds. Max King (Judge)
